Universities in the Region boast strong links with Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd, Thyssen Krupp Automotive, Tallent Chassis Ltd and Nicholson McLaren and use cutting-edge research from the Institute for Automotive and Manufacturing Advanced Practice (AMAP) in Sunderland.
Our local universities forge strong links with the automotive industry and associated manufacturing companies in our region, this allows us access to leading knowledge sources for the automotive and manufacturing sectors.
The Ford Engineering Group has established their own Engineering Academy, teaching youngsters aged 16 to 24 the basic engineering skills they needed to get a job in manufacturing in the North East of England. The academy is based in South Tyneside and is supported by a number of other local engineering businesses.
Engineering is an integral part of the North East economy and programs at Sunderland and Fords Academy benefit from strong links with industry and local experts. We can then exploit specific opportunities in the region through institutes such as the Automotive and Manufacturing Advanced Practice (AMAP) which is constantly carrying out research in control engineering, automotive materials, manufacturing and the human factors affecting the sector.
