D-Line Safety Clips
Published: 2nd November 2015
D-Line Safety Clips – The deaths of several firemen in recent years that became entangled in electric cables which had fallen in the early stages of a fire helped to drive a change in legislation.
The publication of Amendment 3 to the 17th Edition (BS7671:2008) Wiring Regulations states (in Chapter 52 – Selection and Erection of Wiring Systems) under section 521.11 that after 1st July 2015 “Wiring systems in escape routes shall be supported in such a way that they will not be liable to premature collapse in the event of a fire”.
Ford Component Manufacturing were approached by D-Line (Europe) Limited, an expert cable management company, to manufacture a new range of fire-rated clips to their patented design to meet this new requirement.
The SafeD-30, SafeD40 and SafeD50 range have passed stringent test requirements to comply with BS5839 part 1 as well as other specific design aspect requirements within BS7671 and are certified to withstand up to 970°C for 120 minutes – the highest category for this type of product – making them the only tested and certified product range on the market.
Their work in developing these new SafeD Clips has resulted in D-Line being shortlisted as finalists for several prestigious electrical industry awards for innovation. These include ‘The Electric Industry Excellence Awards’ and the ‘Fire and Security Excellence Awards’. Both Paul Ruddick (D-Line Managing Director) and Steve Riszko (Project Manager) are in contention for the ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Electrical Industry’ award.
Ford Component Manufacturing are looking forward to developing our relationship with D-Line further and supporting them in their quest to develop more new and innovative products in the future.
